It's honestly starting to feel like the makers of Lost Tomb had a bucket of tropes (or a h/c bingo square?) and they were determined to use Every Last One. You won't hear any complaints from me about this.
The screencaps I've seen of this show look so good I might go ahead and watch it even if it does end horribly (although I still won't watch until I can prepare myself for it with sufficient spoilers).
It's definitely a very pretty show, full of frankly indecent amounts of h/c. I'm mostly avoiding spoilers, myself, but the occasional screencap from further along does whet my appetite.
I'm just amazed that they went there, I thought it would just be fun adventure with maybe too many creepy zombies - I didn't expect this level of tropiness, it's still blowing my mind a little.

Oh, I KNOW. And it is AMAZING. And Zhu Yilong is so good at looking like a poor waif! He really is perfectly cast for this.
Agreed! He is so good at being a waif who still feels like he has agency and a strong will - that's usually the problem with the woobie character type, but then the woobie isn't usually the LEAD and he's just nailing it.
I particularly love that misty-eyed look the lenses give him, too, so ethereal. And yes the ending was lovely - plus "you owe me a hotpot" - MY SHIP IS CANON XD XD (my ship being the ot3 eating hotpot together and slipping Wu Xie extra tasty bits).
Wu Xie really does have ALL THE THINGS happen to him, and it's glorious. I'm following along with the free release schedule on Viki so I haven't reached max trope eps yet, from what I can tell from the mostly spoiler-free squee I've been seeing, but I'm looking forward to it.
The horizon keeps moving, though - from the squeeing I've seen there is more PEAK TROPE ahead of us, and I can't wait. Except that I totally can and will, so that I can have fun talking to other fans about the show!
I'm waiting for BED SHARING (doubt that'll happen... maybe clothes sharing?) and HUDDLING FOR WARMTH (does that time they were all squished together blind in the tomb count?)
Oooo HUDDLING FOR WARMTH yes pls. Bed sharing probably wouldn't pass censor muster, but then again, who knows, they seem to pass or censor the weirdest things. These are good thoughts, let's hope for both <3
LOLing over the h/c bingo card because they are definitely using every single trope. I'm starting to see a pattern with Zhu Yilong dramas: the parts that aren't censored heavily are a surprising (and delightful) collection of AO3 tags...
