I'm just going to assume I'm not the only one who didn't know this neat LJ trick (despite hanging out on LJ for over three years now *cough*).

If you have a lot of communities on your friendslist, you can make filters to exclude or include them, so your friendslist won't be so cluttered. I never bothered with that, because making filters seemed like a lot of work.

BUT. You can also just add /?show=P or /?show=C to your friendslist URL.

- with /?show=P, you only see personal journals.
- with /?show=C, you only see communities.

Example: http://marycrawford.livejournal.com/friends/?show=C

I've typed both these URLs in and then bookmarked them, so I can switch easily, and now the terrific [livejournal.com profile] audiography comm is no longer overwhelming my friendslist. Hey, I might even friend [livejournal.com profile] crack_van again...

Wow, thanks! I'd just joined a community and was annoyed by the amount of posts that were interspersing with my "regular" stuff. I think I approach personal posts from a different headspace than community posts, so that filter rocks!

I wish I'd known about that before I went to all the trouble of creating filters.

Bah, LJ, you must stop hiding the cool tricks!

Yeah, it's strange that I didn't see this before - I was looking for a FAQ on how to make filters and came across this option.

Oh, I didn't know about that. Reminds me of the way DOS commands worked. Love it! Thanks.

I know, I just found out that as well. Good thing to, since [livejournal.com profile] darker_spike and [livejournal.com profile] wow_ladies have a tendency to flood my f-list... :-P
